Bad physics in the wild

I was responding to an online quiz for GCSE Astronomy when I saw this question:

What about the Sun?


I saw this newspaper headline:

I’m certain the government can be legitimately blamed for many things, but nuclear decay really isn’t one of them.


Here’s a blunder from an actual physics textbook (which I share under fair use as a comment/criticism of the work)… which way are those field lines going? This is from the third edition of this particular textbook. How did it make it through the first and second edition uncorrected?
