GCSE Astronomy Tuition!

Each year more and more students watch my astronomy video series, especially as the GCSE Astronomy exams draw near. Quite a few students have asked me if I’d offer GCSE Astronomy tuition in the same way as I offer GCSE and A-Level Physics tuition. Enough people have requested this now, and I think I’ve found a time when I can offer it!

Guess when the exams happen based on the playlist watch times…

My online tuition sessions are different to what other people offer. In my experience, students don’t like using Zoom and having their face on display, they don’t like having to unmute and speak up when they have a question, and they don’t like it when that one over-confident student dominates the conversation so they can’t get a word in. In my tuition sessions, students communicate with me via text, not voice, or by writing on a digital whiteboard that only I and the student can see.

Students watch on YouTube Live, and in real time answer questions on a digital whiteboard. I see their work, but the other students can’t. Then I respond to it, either vocally or with a pen writing on their whiteboard. Students can type into the YouTube Chat and I can see the messages as we go along and respond to them. The sessions are fully interactive.

I took this picture of the moon in 2020. I’ve got better since then. Practice makes progress.

My GCSE and A-Level Physics sessions have been running since 2020 and have been very popular. I wasn’t sure if GCSE Astronomy sessions would be as popular, but it seems no one else is offering them, and my astronomy videos are some of my most popular.

The sessions will be starting in September 2024 using the same pricing structure as the GCSE and A-Level Physics sessions. You can pay monthly (but bear in mind the sessions don’t start until September, so if you enrol early you’ll be paying over the summer and there aren’t any sessions) or save money by paying for a whole year.

The live stream is embedded on the website, visible only to enrolled tutees. A button on the website opens the whiteboard. Sessions are recorded in case you miss any, so you can go back and watch them again, but live and interactive is always better.

I took this picture of the Orion nebula back in 2020 too. I keep trying but I’ve never been able to capture it quite as well since. I’ll keep trying!

If you’re interested, you can enrol by going to the enrolment page and clicking “enrol”, then select “monthly” or “yearly”, select which session, and then “continue to pay”. Make sure you use the tutees email address or enrol using an email address you’re happy with your tutee using to access the sessions, because the account cannot be transferred to a different email address later.
