New academic year!

It’s been a frantically busy autumn half-term to start the new academic year 2025-2026! I’m sorry I’ve not had a chance to write any updates or blog posts.

As I write this, I’m in Geneva on a school trip. I cannot keep track of how many times I’ve been on this trip now; somewhere between 12 and 15 times. Each time we visit CERN, and we try to visit the Red Cross museum and the UN too. In recent years we’ve climbed the towers of the Cathedrale Saint-Pierre too.

It’s a great trip, and it’s a joy run with teenagers; I would not want to bring younger pupils with me though. One day I’ll share a blog post about the one time I lost a student here, but today is not that day. Don’t worry, he was found again!

I’ll be at CERN again today, and my students will be undertaking some laboratory work (investigating positron emission tomography today, which I believe is part of the Edexcel GCSE but not included in the AQA GCSE or A-Level specifications – but of course I teach it anyway).

This is our last day here this year, so if you see me around do pop over and say hello. So far I’ve given out three badges to people who recognised me! All this celebrity attention is not good for my already-inflated ego.
