Live tuition

Active learning is better than passive learning [1]. The live tuition sessions I offer are interactive, so tutees actively actively engage with the content. This improves understanding and long-term memory recall.

Live interactive tuition sessions

Sundays during term time
9:30am for GCSE Physics
10:30am for A Level Physics
11:30am for GCSE Astronomy

During live sessions, tutees can answer questions using a digital whiteboard. I can see tutees’ working in real time, and make corrections as we go along. Tutees’ whiteboards cannot be seen by other tutees, so they do not have to fear getting something wrong in front of their peers.

Many teenagers do not enjoy talking during online meetings, and would prefer to type questions or answers. This gives them time to think and reduces the anxiety of being put on the spot. This is why interaction during my sessions is done via the digital whiteboard and by text chat alone. Neither the tutee’s webcam nor microphone are used.

The average attention span for teenagers is reported to be 32 to 48 minutes [2]. That is why my tuition sessions are 50 minutes long, exactly in the middle of that range.

Sessions take place during term time on Sunday mornings. GCSE sessions are at 9:30am (UK time), A-Level sessions are at 10:30am (UK time). (Unless there are reasons I cannot make that, in which case you’ll be notified in advance and it will be different on the calendar)

Sessions are recorded so if tutees miss any, or if they need to watch part of the tuition session again to better understand something, they have that option.

Enrolled tutees also get access to a bank of resources that they can download, including worksheets, question generators, notes, and presentations. These are available on the password-protected pages of this website.

Please note that these are tuition sessions, not lessons. It would not be possible to teach all of the GCSE and A-Level Physics and Astronomy courses in one year. Following this plan, tutees will benefit regardless of their progress through their course so far. If the session covers something they have not studied yet, then it will be good preparation for when they do study it. If it covers something they have already studied, it will be good revision.
